Waiting for a Mentor: Boy wants to build a motor

How often do we take a moment to look at the people who shaped our lives? Think for a moment - who were the important men and women that influenced you?...

How often do we take a moment to look at the people who shaped our lives? Think for a moment - who were the important men and women that influenced you?

Imagine now if you took all of them away.

That is what life is like for many of the children waiting for someone like you to come into their lives as a Kinship Partner mentor.

Gary is an 8-year-old boy who lives in Brainerd, is in Boy Scouts and loves horseback riding. The thing he likes best about his family is they make him happy. His dream is to learn how to build a motor, especially on a tractor and most of all to have a mentor.

The wonderful thing about mentoring is that you are already equipped to be a great mentor. You bring to the table something unique that these kids do not have in their lives, the ability to be their friend.

And mentoring is simple because the most successful relationships are built around common shared activities and interests.

During the Holiday season, count your blessings. Remember those who invested into your life. You can fill that critical role in a child's life and pass the blessing on to Gary or one of the other 36 children waiting for a Kinship Partners mentor.

Kinship Partners serves families in Crow Wing County, southern Cass County and the Staples/Motley area by providing positive role models to youth from the ages of 5 to 14. Mentors can be individuals, couples or families. We have offices in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby and Staples.
