August is here and summer is swiftly speeding by. Days are beautiful and warm, with most of us running to the lake or placing ourselves in some outdoor environment, trying to squeeze out the last bit of summer. Kids in our community are refusing to think of school yet, as moms and dads are starting to scramble to get fall clothes and school supplies.
Where does the time go? There are always so many things on our summer to-do list and so many left unchecked. Did your list include becoming a mentor? Was it something you promised yourself you would do this season, but before you knew it the calendar said "August"?
John, who is going into second grade, is still on our waiting list. School will start soon and he needs help learning to be active and really wants a friend. He dreams of being a gym teacher when he grows up, but needs someone to show him a healthy lifestyle.
Don't just cross "Be a Kinship Mentor" off your list. There is a child waiting to change your life, and it just might be John.
