Warrior Day of Service on Wednesday is an opportunity for Brainerd students to give back to their community.

This event is open to all Brainerd Public Schools students grades 6-12 on Wednesday. School will be dismissed at 1:10 p.m. At that time the student volunteers will gather at both BHS and Forestview Middle School where they will receive a Warrior Day of Service T-shirt and meet the adult volunteers who will be serving alongside them.

Forestview students and adult volunteers will stay at Forestview to do their work projects. The BHS students and their adult volunteers will be bused to their worksites.

Last year, approximately 500 students and adult volunteers worked at multiple work sites. Project sites included Camp Confidence, Brainerd Soup Kitchen, Salvation Army, Timber Bay, Camp Vanasek, Northland Arboretum, area nursing homes, Brainerd Park and Recreation and Build a Better Brainerd.

The Warrior Day of Service is organized by Brainerd Area Youth Ministries in co-operation with the school district.

New this year will be the project "Kids Against Hunger," which is a humanitarian food-aid organization. Their goal is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the U.S. and to feed starving children throughout the world. With the number of expected Forestview volunteers, organizers anticipate packaging about 38,000 meals.

There will be two lengths of time students can serve. Two-hour projects are earmarked for those students involved in sports and other extracurricular activities. Four-hour projects are for students who can give more time. Students can pick whichever time works best for their schedule. They can also pick if they want to serve with their sports team or activity group.

At 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday volunteers will be bused to Washington Educational Service Building for a community dinner donated and provided by Olive Garden. The day will wrap up with the BAY Rally at 6:45 p.m. also at the Washington Educational Service Building. The rally will feature live drama, video, live music and special guest speaker/hip hop artist, Agape. The rally will conclude about 8:15 p.m.

The rally is free, a freewill offering for Kids Against Hunger will be received.
