Tom Polovitz of East Gull Lake sent in this picture of a snow-fisherperson who is sad because the fish aren't biting on the opening day of fishing season in Minnesota.

The lakes area took a step backward this past weekend as two nights, Friday and Saturday, had temperatures drop to 27 degrees. Highs were in the 40s during the day. The average temperature of 35.5 degrees set a new weather record for the Brainerd area.

The lakes area is likely to also have posted a new snow record opening day on Saturday, May 9, replacing the trace recorded in 2019 with about 1.5 inches of snow after a steady snowfall covered roofs, and trees and new green grass.
