Debra Iverson benefit planned
There will be a benefit and silent auction for Debra (Katzenberger) Iverson from 2-6 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Brainerd American Legion.
Iverson of Merrifield has Alpha 1 Antitrypsin and is on the list for a double lung transplant. The benefit will help with medical, transportation and housing needs. Her home needs work before she can come home from the transplant. Monetary donations can be sent to any US Bank to the Debra Iverson Benefit Account.
There will be a freewill offering and raffle tickets sold for prize drawings. At 3 p.m. there will be chili and cornbread. Cost: $8 for adults; $4 for children 5-12; kids 4 and under, free.

Mission Possible Senior Club

Diabetes class planned
CROSBY - People at risk for developing diabetes are encouraged to participate in "I Can Prevent Diabetes," a group-based program soon starting in Crosby to learn how to change lifestyle habits in an effort to prevent diabetes and be healthier.
Weekly classes will begin Sept. 4 and be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center's Ambulatory Services Conference Room. The 16-week program is taught by a Registered Dietitian and trained lifestyle coaches to help participants lose weight, eat healthier and increase physical activity.
The program is open to people who have pre-diabetes or at least two risk factors for diabetes, e.g., are overweight, have family history of diabetes, high blood sugar or had gestational diabetes while pregnant. The fee is $144 and is required before beginning the program. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by calling Tracey Tuper at 218-545-4491.
Brainerd Legion upcoming events
The IBEW will meet 6 p.m. Monday at the Legion. The Post Executive Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.
A baked chicken dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Legion. Cost is $11 or two for $20.
Breast cancer survivor support group
The August meeting of the Breast Cancer Survivor Support Group will meet 11:30 a.m. Friday at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in the Joseph Room. Go through the cafeteria to the meeting rooms. All breast cancer survivors are welcome as well as caregivers. Lunch is available for purchase in the River Room Cafeteria. GARRISON - The Garrison Seniors annual August picnic will be noon Tuesday at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church, two blocks west on Monroe Street from the Super Valu in Garrison.
This month the food, plates, utensils, and cups are provided and following the meal, drawings for door prizes. Support group for people with brain injuries
A support group for people with brain injuries is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Emily City Hall.
