A wind chill is advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday, March 9 through 9 a.m. March 10 in the lakes region.
The wind chill values may drop to 30 below zero, the National Weather Service in Duluth reported. Strong winds, with gusts up to 20 mph-nothing like the recent winds-will combine with below-zero air temperatures to create the bitter cold. The air temperature is expected to drop to 10 below.
"Cold temperatures are in store for the Northland overnight. The bitterly cold overnight lows will combine with northwest winds to create wind chill values as low as 40 below across most of northeast Minnesota. A wind chill advisory has been posted for all of northeast Minnesota, with the exception of Pine County," the weather service reported.
A clipper system may bring a chance for light snow accumulations Sunday into Monday.
