DETROIT LAKES - A woman has been charged in the death of a man found lying on a roadway near the small western Minnesota community of Ogema.

Jessica Marie Kilde, 33, of rural Ogema, is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend, Richard Alan Baity, 41, also of rural Ogema. She appeared Tuesday in Becker County District Court.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call around 10 p.m. Friday of a person who had been run over by a vehicle on 370th Street East in Maple Grove Township. They found Baity’s body on the road about 160 feet from his driveway.

According to the criminal complaint, injuries to Baity and other evidence indicated he had been dragged. A broken portion of tie-down strap nearby appears to be consistent with ligature marks on Baity’s neck, the complaint said. Drag marks also extended back to Baity’s home. Kilde was observed driving toward the scene. A strap tied to the frame of the rear passenger-side door matched the strap found near the body.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Becker County Sheriff's Office and White Earth Tribal Police Department are investigating.
