Woman dies, man in custody after shooting at Aurora American Legion

AURORA - An ongoing case of domestic abuse appears to have spilled over into the American Legion Club in Aurora Sunday night when 51-year-old John Joseph Plevell allegedly shot his onetime girlfriend Julie Ann Hildreth.

AURORA - An ongoing case of domestic abuse appears to have spilled over into the American Legion Club in Aurora Sunday night when 51-year-old John Joseph Plevell allegedly shot his onetime girlfriend Julie Ann Hildreth.

Hildreth, 49, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at Essentia Health-Northern Pines hospital in Aurora shortly after the shooting that was reported just after 9 p.m.

The East Range Police Department reported Plevell was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and was being held in the St. Louis County Jail in Virginia on preliminary charges of second-degree murder.

An autopsy report released Monday afternoon confirmed Hildreth died from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to Tim Soular, chief of the East Range Police Department, a cooperative between the cities of Aurora and Hoyt Lakes.

Plevell will face formal arraignment in court this week.
