ST. PAUL - A woman told authorities she shot a man to death Wednesday after he assaulted her for hours, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety reported.
The man was identified as Anthony Ray Tullis, 25. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County found that he died of a gunshot wound, the Department of Public Safety said in a news release.
Around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, Pope County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call of a shooting at a home in Gilchrist Township. They found Ivy Winter Reutzel-Morrell outside and Tullis dead inside.
The release said Reutzel-Morrell, who lived at the home with Tullis, told investigators she shot Tullis when she gained control of his rifle after he had been assaulting her for five hours and threatening to kill her.
According to a preliminary investigation, Tullis forced Reutzel-Morrell into a bedroom and repeatedly assaulted her and made several threats to her life.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is awaiting toxicology test results.
Reutzel-Morrell was not in custody.
