Crews may begin work anew for the new signal light where Cypress Drive will cross Highway 210 in Baxter.

Scott Hedlund, senior project manager with Short Elliott Hendrickson, reported the first shipment of the long-awaited mast arm materials for the new traffic signal arrived on site Tuesday. Hedlund said the contractor reported crews are mobilizing to resume signal work as early as Wednesday, Dec. 19, and will continue the effort during the next three weeks.

"During this time there will be intermittent lane closures on Cypress Drive near State Highway 210," Hedlund reported in an update. "There will also be intermittent lane closures on State Highway 210 between State Highway 371 and Baxter Drive on Wednesday, Jan. 2, for installation of the overhead signal mast arms, subject to change and the weather. The signal turn on is currently planned for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, subject to change, weather dependent."

Access to State Highway 210 at Cypress Drive will remain a right off and right on to westbound State Highway 210 only until the traffic signal is made operational.

As a reminder, Hedlund stated "now and after the traffic signal is operational, the south leg of the State Highway 210/Cypress Drive intersection will remain closed over the winter and until the new railroad crossing is installed in 2019."

In addition, the westbound Highway 210 left turn lane at Cypress Drive, the northbound Cypress Drive through lanes south of Highway 210, and the eastbound Highway 210 right turn lane at Cypress Drive will all remain closed during this time.

Now through next spring when the concrete flat work-pedestrian curb ramps-can be completed, there will be no pedestrian crossings allowed at the Highway 210/Cypress Drive intersection. The city of Baxter does not intend to plow any of the trails south of mid block between Excelsior Road and State Highway 210 this winter, so they will remain closed until spring. The trail on the south side of Highway 210-between Cypress Drive and the Paul Bunyan State Trail-will only be open this winter for snowmobile trail use.

Hedlund asked motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
