The Brainerd Public Library is celebrating spring by "Yarn Bombing" areas of the library. Library staff is requesting the public's assistance in covering parts of the library in knitted or crocheted 6- by 6-inch patches. Yarn will be available at the library in April and May for people to use to create a patch and bring back to the library so that all of the patches will be connected to cover wood beams, end caps and much more in the library.
The library also will provide knitting workshops in April and May. The first of the workshops is for teens, ages 12-18 to learn how to knit. The class will be covered in two parts: 6-7 p.m. April 18 and 25. Participants will make a simple square in a unique way to learn to knit by starting with the basics. They will start with a very easy cast on, simple knit and purl stitches and finish with a bind off/cast off, learning essential skills one stitch at a time. Participants will practice between class dates to move onto reading a pattern.
Register for the free class by calling 218-829- 5574.
The workshops will be taught by LeAne Finlay. Finlay has been knitting and crocheting since she was 6. Finlay stated in a news release, "Knitting is a unique handcraft that continually teaches me new ways to enjoy and love how I can create projects my family and friends love to wear.
Finlay is the owner of A2Z Yarn, LLC located in the Franklin Arts Centers in Brainerd.
