Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport has implemented the Delta CareStandard, which aims to offer a safer, cleaner and more flexible experience for passengers.
From preflight to check-in until baggage claim at the destination, passengers departing from Brainerd will find new health safety measures focused on keeping surfaces clean, giving customers more space and social distancing throughout their travels, and offering safer service and personal care at every point along the way.
“We would like to let our travelers know about all the extensive health safety measures that are in place — both at BRD and on connecting Delta flights,” stated Steve Wright, Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport director, in a news release. “The Delta CareStandard is very comprehensive and covers several areas of health safety that passengers will notice and appreciate when they fly from BRD.”
The Delta CareStandard health and safety protocols can be found throughout the flight experience and include wearing masks, social distancing, industrial-grade filtered air circulation, the use of electrostatic sprayers with high-grade disinfectant, frequent sanitizing and more.

Some things have changed since previous flights. For example, the Transportation Security Administration’s checklist says each passenger may now bring a 12-ounce bottle of liquid hand sanitizer on U.S. flights. Passengers should bring a mask and pack light, too, as crews no longer assist with carry-ons to further reduce touchpoints.
Check-in
All customers and employees must wear masks. Other safety measures include hand sanitizer stations, Plexiglas shields and floor decals. All touchpoint areas are wiped down and sanitized frequently throughout the day. The Fly Delta app also allows for touchless check-in.
Security
Bins are sanitized throughout the day, alternating security lanes are used when available, TSA employees wear masks and gloves, and hand sanitizer stations are available.
Boarding
There will now be more space, cleaner surfaces and reduced contact with other customers throughout the boarding experience. To sanitize gate areas and jet bridges, electrostatic sprayers with high-grade disinfectant disperse the disinfectant in a fine mist that clings to all surfaces. Boarding is limited to 10 customers at a time, and boarding is from back to front and the reverse on arrival.

Middle seats are blocked, and cabin seating is reduced. Air circulation systems with industrial-grade high efficiency particulate air filters extract more than 99.99% of particles, including viruses. An extensive sanitizing checklist is followed, including electrostatic spraying and frequent wipe downs and sanitizing.
Seats
Electrostatic sprayers using high-grade disinfectant to sanitize the entire cabin. Tray tables, armrests and seat back screens are also individually sanitized before all flights, and non-essential items (magazines and glassware) have been removed. There are also new snack bags, care kits and food/beverage options.
Baggage claim
Baggage claim areas are sanitized using electrostatic sprayers with high-grade disinfectant; hand sanitizer stations are located near baggage carousels. Floor decals promote social distancing, and Plexiglas shields are in place at baggage services.
“We had a very busy July and were able to fill a majority of the BRD seats that Delta was selling,” Wright said. “We are here to serve and are ready when our passengers begin to fly again — safer and even more prepared than before. Be assured that with our partner, Delta, Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport follows the guidance of CDC and WHO to ensure we’re meeting, and often exceeding, today’s higher standards for safe, healthy flying.”
