Spring commencement ceremonies are planned next week for about 800 eligible students in the graduating class of 2003 at Central Lakes College.
The graduation ceremony for the Staples campus will be in the Staples-Motley High School gymnasium at 7 p.m. May 13.
The graduation ceremony for the Brainerd campus will be in the Brainerd High School gymnasium at 7 p.m. May 15.
Joe Niggeler, plant manager for 3M Fabrication Services at Staples, is the guest speaker in Staples.
Joycelyn Shingobe, commissioner of education for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, is the guest speaker in Brainerd.
Niggeler holds a technical certificate in industrial systems from Hennepin Technical College in Eden Prairie. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering through the 3M engineering academic program.
Niggeler has been active in the lakes area as a member of the Central Minnesota Regional School-to-Work Executive Committee, chair of the 3M Greater Minnesota Community Relations Council, member of the Lakewood Health Systems Foundation Board, member of the Pillager High School Dollars for Scholars board, and is an active supporter of Central Lakes College and the CLC Foundation.
Shingobe received her Associate of Arts degree from CLC and earned a bachelor's degree in American Indian studies from Metropolitan State University. She has completed coursework for her master's degree in educational leadership from St. Mary's University.
Shingobe is a former superintendent of Nay Ah Shing Schools and had been a history teacher and assistant superintendent before that. She spent many years as site manager at the Minnesota Historical Society's Mille Lacs Indian Museum.
