Most new COVID-19 cases reported in Crow Wing County residents this week were among those younger than 60 years old.
According to data provided by the county, those between age 50-59 added the highest number of new cases, increasing from 43 the previous week to 53 as of Friday, Sept. 11. Eight new cases were reported in those aged 19-29 years old — the age group accounting for the largest percentage of overall cases in the county at just under 25% — bringing that total to 89. Those ages 30-39 accounted for seven of the new cases reported this week for 49 total.
This week also saw two additional deaths reported in the county — a person in their 80s and a person who was older than 100.
Nearby Morrison County saw a notable rise in cases of the disease caused by the coronavirus this week, particularly over Labor Day weekend and again between Thursday and Friday, when the county’s total rose by eight. Since Sept. 4, 35 new cases of the disease were reported, a departure from the generally slow increase in cases there.
Some new congregate care facilities in the lakes area appeared on the Minnesota Department of Health’s list of those with COVID-19 exposures Friday, while others were removed. Congregate care facilities listed reported an exposure from a case of COVID-19 in a resident, staff person, or visiting provider.
Added to the list were Pierz Villa in Pierz, Edgewood May Creek in Walker and Sunrise Villa of Milaca. Removed from the list were Edgewood senior living facility in Baxter, Sterling Pointe Senior Living in Princeton and Providence Villa in Sebeka. Facilities that have not reported a new exposure for a minimum of 28 days are removed from the state’s list. If a facility identifies a new exposure, they will once again be listed.
Area facilities remaining on the list include Good Samaritan Society-Pine River, Good Samaritan Society-Bethany in south Brainerd, St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, CentraCare Long Prairie Care Center and Lakewood Health System Care Center.
