COVID-19 cases are climbing at a much slower rate compared to last fall, but the illness continues to claim the lives of some of the lakes area’s oldest residents.
Crow Wing County recorded 33 new cases Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 12-13 — a far cry from an increase of 123 in a single day Nov. 21. Six more county residents were hospitalized in that two-day period, and two more deaths were recorded, both males in their 100s, who died Jan. 9, marking the 72nd and 73rd deaths in the county.
Cass County recorded one more COVID-19 death in the past two days in a resident aged 80-84, bringing the county’s death toll from the virus to 23.

Crow Wing — 4,742, with 73 deaths.
Mille Lacs — 2,113, with 45 deaths.
Morrison — 3,073, with 43 deaths.
Todd — 2,297, with 29 deaths.
Wadena — 1,177, with 13 deaths.
