In Crow Wing County, the Good Samaritan Society-Bethany long-term care facility remains a site of infection, according to data provided by Sanford Health.

A second Mille Lacs County resident died due to complications associated with COVID-19, the Minnesota Department of Health reported Tuesday, June 30.

The death was among six new deaths among 1,441 confirmed in the state since the coronavirus pandemic began. Information concerning the age and other demographic data on the deceased Mille Lacs resident was unavailable Tuesday.

New laboratory-confirmed cases in north-central Minnesota continued to reflect a slowdown seen in statewide figures as well. Since Sunday, Morrison, Todd and Aitkin counties each added one new case. Todd — hovering within 20 cases of 400 total since mid-June — still has yet to reach that milestone, sitting at 398 as of Tuesday.

In Crow Wing County, which passed the 100-case threshold over the weekend, just nine of the patients with confirmed cases are within the period expected for isolation. Eight of those are within Good Samaritan Society-Bethany, according to a data update released by Sanford Health Tuesday. Seven are residents of the south Brainerd long-term care facility, and one is an employee.

Since an outbreak of 21 cases there was first reported in mid-May, a total of 61 cases between residents and employees were confirmed. Of those, 32 residents and 29 employees tested positive. Eleven residents have died, making up all but one of the deaths among Crow Wing County residents reported so far. Fourteen residents have recovered, along with 28 employees, according to Sanford.
