For the first time since September 2020, Crow Wing County saw no new COVID-19 cases added to its running tally by the Minnesota Department of Health.
While the statistics of other regional counties — particularly those with smaller populations — have remained unchanged for sometimes days at a time, the more populous Crow Wing County recorded an increase every day for which data was posted since Sept. 29 until Thursday, June 3.
Reports of new cases across the north-central region dropped off a cliff for the first week of June. All seven counties — including Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Todd and Wadena — reported new cases in the single digits since Sunday, for a total of just 35.
Crow Wing County’s total for the last 14 days dropped below the 100 mark this week to 86 and active cases fell to 61 as of Friday.
The trend of no new COVID-19 deaths in the region continued Friday with the latest data, meaning the health department has not reported a death in any of the seven counties since May 25.

While signals of a waning pandemic continue to appear, residents continue to be hospitalized because of the disease. Two people who live in Crow Wing County required hospitalization this week, according to county statistics.

Aitkin — 1,378 with 36 deaths; 7,260 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, representing 51.4% of the county’s 12 and older population.
Cass — 2,838 with 32 deaths; 10,939 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 43.5%.
Crow Wing — 6,793, with 92 deaths; 26,674 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 48.5%.
Mille Lacs — 3,106, with 54 deaths; 10,919 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 50.2%.
Morrison — 4,232, with 60 deaths; 11,419 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 40.8%.
Todd — 2,851, with 32 deaths; 6,699 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 32.5%.
Wadena — 1,607, with 22 deaths; 5,425 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 47.8%.
NOTE: These numbers are cumulative since March 21, 2020, and many are out of isolation.
