No deaths attributed to COVID-19 occurred among residents of the seven-county region in at least a week, while new cases reported each day continue to slow.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported no new deaths of residents in Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Todd or Wadena counties on Tuesday, June 1, or for any day during the previous week back to May 25, when the death of a Cass County resident in their 70s was listed.

Three hospitalizations because of the disease occurred among Crow Wing County residents in that time frame, but active cases in the county dropped below the 100-mark sometime over the weekend. Based on statistics provided by the county, that figure dropped to 82 as of Tuesday, with data lagging somewhat due to the Memorial Day holiday. The total number of cases reported during the previous 14 days in Crow Wing was 101, with just three of those days recording more than 10 cases.

In the region as a whole, just over 100 total new cases were recorded since May 25. With all counties’ totals combined, there were 112 new COVID-19 cases: 47 in Crow Wing, 23 in Cass, 17 in Wadena, 11 in Morrison, seven in Mille Lacs, four in Todd and three in Aitkin.

• Aitkin — 1,370 with 36 deaths; 7,231 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, representing 51.2% of the county’s 12 and older population.

• Cass — 2,833 with 32 deaths; 10,880 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 43.3%.

• Crow Wing — 6,787, with 92 deaths; 26,488 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 48.2%.

• Mille Lacs — 3,103, with 54 deaths; 10,792 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 49.6%.

• Morrison — 4,230, with 60 deaths; 11,321 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 40.5%.

• Todd — 2,848, with 32 deaths; 6,663 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 32.3%.

• Wadena — 1,605, with 22 deaths; 5,382 residents who’ve completed the vaccine series, 47.4%.
