Air Force Academy senior Justin Kieffer of Brainerd was one of 20 college seniors to be selected to play in the American Hockey Coaches Assn. all-star series last month. He is the first Air Force Academy hockey player to be chosen for that honor.

Mayor Bob Olson says he hasn't decided who he will appoint to the Brainerd PUC, but that a decision is forthcoming. His way was cleared when Dr. Helen Longfellow resigned. He had previously appointed Irene Johnson and then Ray Shortridge. Both were voted down by the council.

(Photo) This 34-4 muskie was hooked in the Mississippi River in the Crow Wing State Park area by Lee Jorgenson of Little Falls. He used a Rapala lure for the catch. He weighed it in at Nisswa Bait Shop.

(Photo) Bob Falls, former Warrior football star, was fishing on Little Gilbert lake for bass with his brother Mike. Bob discovered the lake has something other than big bass and dinky northerns when this 9-4 walleye hit his lure. It's the largest here so far this season.

Behind the six-hit pitching of King Hauge, Brainerd punched out 15 singles to stop Lastrup 14-3 on the Lastrup field. Wimpy Aylward and Clyde Perkins had three hits apiece for Brainerd, and Hauge struck out 12 Lastrup batters.

The mammoth picnic for Ford car owners will be held at Mille Lacs Lake June 21. Over 15 acres have been cleared of brush to accommodate the cars. To date, 800 people from Crosby and Ironton, 600 from Brainerd, and hundreds more from Pequot, Pillager, etc. say they will attend.
