What Monte Hall of Deerwood told North Central Speedway owner Cliff Sasker Saturday before the third annual Mighty Axe Nationals proved true.
Hall told Sasker he was going to defend his Wissota Midwest Modified feature win from last year and he did. In fact, he won last year's Saturday race too.
He even told his wife that she should have their granddaughter prepared to go out on the track for trophy photographs (actually a Golden Axe).
Hall said he has raced in 32 shows and paid for all of his racing this season from his winnings.
His chassis was built by 2004 NCS Wissota Super Stock points champion Tim Johnson.
Langerud second in World of Outlaws
Loren Langerud, among the Wissota Sprint Car racers Saturday at NCS during the Mighty Axe Nationals, finished second in a World of Outlaws A feature at Fargo, N.D. earlier this season.
He entered Saturday's race second in Wissota Sprint Car national points just five points behind the leader. Langerud has raced in 27 shows to the leader's 31.
Brainerd's Sye Anderson is seventh, Pequot Lakes' Roger Rager is 11th and Baxter's John Franzen is 49th. Anderson has raced in 23 shows, Rager in 14 and Franzen in two.
Mass points leader
Dave Mass, Brainerd, is the current points leader in Wissota Super Stock as of Friday. He has raced in 70 shows and leads Ryan Aho by 11 points.
Brainerd's Troy Jordan trails the Wissota Midwest Modified leader by only 20 points after competing in 41 shows. Mark Anderson, Aitkin, is eighth, Justin Jones, Onamia, is ninth, and Mike Jones, Onamia, is 40th. Anderson has raced in 57 shows, Justin Jones in 69 and Mike Jones in 31.
Brainerd's Robert Young is 23rd in Wissota Street Stock points after 34 shows.
