Richard J. Nichols
Richard J Nichols, 78, of Kannapolis, NC formerly of Staples, MN passed away surrounded by family on May 26, 2019 at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. Richard was born on September 15, 1940 to Monroe and Beatrice (Smith) Nichols in Staples. Richard grew up in Staples graduating for high school in 1958. He joined the army in 1960 and served in Germany and Vietnam. He married his first wife in Germany in 1961, he then married Margo Anderson in 1972. Richard worked many jobs around Staples. He worked with his father and brother at Nichols Service Center till it was sold. He then worked at Stern Rubber, Coast to Coast and later on at Crestliner Boats Works in Little Falls until his retirement in 2002. Richard spent his retirement years on 40 acres north of Staples where he enjoyed walking in the woods, feeding the numerous animals that passed through the property and checking the trail cameras. He also enjoyed hunting with his family and friends until the dementia became too bad and moved with his wife to North Carolina to be close to his grandchildren. Richard is survived by his wife Margo, daughters Christa and Helga of Germany, sons Richie of Santa Ana, California, Ron (Michele) of Concord North Carolina. Grandchildren: Jana of Germany, Alexis, Kendra, Tyler and Alyssa of North Carolina. Richard is also survived by his sister Jeanette Hardy of Milaca MN, brother James Nichols of Wadena MN, brother in laws Hugh Anderson of AZ, Bill Anderson of WI, sister in laws Barbara Anderson of AZ, Gaye Anderson of WI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles. A service was held at the home of his son and daughter in law on Saturday June 1st , 2019. He will be laid to rest in MN at Camp Ripley at a later date. Cremation services were provided by the Boston Mortuary of Charlotte, North Carolina.
