Dolores Weiss

Dolores Mathilda Weiss, a woman who spent much of her life helping others and who was passionately devoted to her family, died of COVID-19 December 6, 2020 while at the Good Samaritan Society Elmwood House.
She was born Dolores Walz on February 26, 1927 to Edward Walz and Gertrude Schueller south of Center Valley. She was one of the oldest members of a family of 13.
Growing up on a farm with a large family she developed a strong work ethic which she carried throughout her life. She would split wood, tend the garden, care for the younger children, can and cook.
She loved going to school but because of family obligations she was not able to attend high school though she desperately wanted to continue and teach elementary school. Education was a priority and one of the great pleasures of her life was that all six of her children graduated from college.
One of the best moments of her life was when she met and eventually married Wilfred Weiss on June 4, 1947 in Pierz, MN. With Wilfred being employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital they made their home in Brainerd. Wilfred went to school to become a steam engineer at the hospital and Dolores stayed home and raised their six children as she did not want them to be raised by someone else and she loved being a mother.
With the death of Wilfred in 1974, Dolores began working as a cook in the Brainerd School System and also cooked Legionville in the summer. Dolores was a devout Catholic who read the Bible each day, attended daily Mass and cleaned the church linens. She joined St. Lucy’s Guild and remained a member all of her life.
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. A live streaming option will be available on the church’s website (www.blccnorth.org) Memorials are preferred to St. Francis Catholic Church.
