Family and friends are invited to gather Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Erma was born January 3, 1930, in Upsala, the daughter of Arthur T. and Edith M. (Getzkow) Johnson. She completed her education at 8th grade. Erma married Elbridge Lee Allen. The couple was blessed with four daughters. Erma and her second husband, Ralph Hollingsworth welcomed a son. Erma was a hard worker. In addition to raising her family, she also was a server and hostess at Harold’s Club and Bar Harbor. Erma was a seamstress and custodian at the state hospital in Brainerd for more than 25 years. Taking care of her family was a top priority – and that didn’t mean just making sure to treat them to delicious meals, it meant teaching them to sew, cook, and ensure they had a strong Christian foundation. Erma was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. She loved to bird-watch, fish, and go camping. She truly lived to show God’s love to all. She was warm, kind, and had a sense of humor that never left her. She is greatly loved and will forever be missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Ade Twombly, Catherine (Sidney) Berglund, and Jan (Joe) Dirkes; son, Eugene (Valerie) Hollingsworth; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara; husbands, Elbridge Allen, Ralph Hollingsworth and Henry Peck; grandson, John Berglund; son-in-law, Jim Twombly; and siblings, Sylvia, Velma, Rena, Ardis, and Arnold.
