Gloria Perpich

Gloria G. Perpich, age 89 of Crosby formerly of Ironton, died on December 4, 2019 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. She was born on October 29, 1930 to Joseph and Veronica (DeCent) Sabyan.

She graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School, class of 1947. Gloria married Myron G. Perpich on October 31, 1959. Her employment included Smith’s Variety and Skogmos in Crosby, Goldfines and Mid-Way Homes in Grand Rapids. In 1982 she moved back to Ironton and was employed at D.J.’s Dress Shop in Crosby and the clerk’s office at the City of Ironton.

Gloria was a Board member of the Ironton Commercial Club, Joint Powers for the Croft Mine Historical Park, Zoning Board for the City of Ironton, Board member of the Cuyuna Housing Authority, Member of the County Park Board, Library Board of Ironton, member of the Myrin-James American Legion Auxiliary, Ironton, member of the committee that worked on getting the Miners Memorial completed in the City of Ironton, was instrumental in securing a new post office building and disc golf park in the City of Ironton, a representative of the Cuyuna Range for the NLTA (IRRB Division), making sleeping bags for the homeless and pasties at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters, and a board member of the Crosby Museum.

Gloria was passionate about promoting the businesses and restoring the history of the Cuyuna Range area. She had a gift for fixing anything, whether it was with her sewing machine or something mechanical. Gloria was an avid sports fan and would travel anywhere, no matter the weather, to watch her great-nephews play. She has left this earth, but her legacy lives on in her family and the many projects that were brought to fruition in the community.

Preceding Gloria in death are her parents, Joseph and Veronica Sabyan; her husband, Myron; a sister, Betty Ravnik and three brothers, Gerald, Edward, and Ronald Sabyan.

Betty is survived by three brothers, Thomas Sabyan of Hermantown, Donald Sabyan of Brainerd and Archie Sabyan of Crosby; one brother-in-law, Frank Perpich of Ironton; niece, Barbara Hoge; great nephews, John (Melissa) Hoge, Eric Hoge, Benedict (Bonnie) Hoge, Mark Hoge, Michael Hoge and many other nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. A visitation will be on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
