Harold Butterfield

Harold U. “Butter” Butterfield, age 95, died December 21, 2020 from complications from COVID-19.

Butter was proud of his service in the Navy during World War II, his membership in the Submarine Veterans of WWII, and he was a lifetime member of the South St. Paul VFW and member of the Brainerd American Legion. Dorothy and Butter enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending time with family & friends. He loved to hunt and fish. Butter will be remembered as a kind, gentle man with a great sense of humor and wonderful smile.

Butter is survived by his daughters, Linda (George) Auger, Susan (Thomas) Hoppenstedt, and Bonnie (Paul) Hotchkiss; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly, Amy, Matthew, Tracy, Jeremy and Harley; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Sobaszkiewicz; sister-in-law, Evelyn Haehnel; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy; 4 siblings and great-grandson, Oliver Hudson Hotchkiss.

Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Memorials preferred to Good Samaritan Society-Woodland, Birchwood, Bethany, 804 Wright St. Brainerd, MN 56401 for loving and caring for Butter the last 7 years.

Arrangements have been completed by Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
