Herman J. Karlsgodt


Karlsgodt, Herman J. August 5, 1924-December 8, 2019. Herman danced his way to heaven the morning of the 8th of December, 2019. He was met by his parents Ole and Martha Karlsgodt; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda and Ole Kringstad, Alfhild and Al Peterson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marvel and Phil Bacon; and many dear friends, especially life-long friends Theodore and Arlene Rudser. Herman married Mary Ellen Stahara January 25, 1947 in Watertown, South Dakota in a double wedding ceremony with Ted and Arlene. They returned to work Monday morning with no fanfare or celebration. They waited for their 25th anniversary for a very special celebration. Herman worked on the railroad for 20 years then the Brooklyn Center school district for another 24 years. They lived across the street from Earle Brown School for 67 years where Herman worked. He sang in the Herron Methodist Church choir as well as weddings and funerals for many years. Herman was a member of the Fraternal Order of Freemasons since 1944 - 75 years, was a Zurrah Shriner for 20 years, and member of Sons of Norway. Herman and Mary Ellen danced with the Norrona Leikarring Norwegian dancers performing at summer Sambands and in Norway on a few occasions. He is survived by wife Mary Ellen of 72 years; son Marty (Janet) Karlsgodt; daughter Wendy (Jack) Antolak; 6 grandchildren Karl (Emily) Antolak, Helena (John) Lease, Scott Antolak, LeaAnn Karlsgodt, Erin (CJ) Hunnicutt, Mason Karlsgodt; 5 great grandchildren Genevieve, John and Elena Lease and Lincoln and Adelyne Hunnicutt. He is also survived by a niece, nephews, and ‘bonus’ children. Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota. Herman requested no services. Innurnment will be in the spring. A very special thank you to the caring excellent staff at Edgewood Vista and Knute Nelson Hospice, Brainerd.
