Joyce Tix

Joyce Tix, age 80 of Garrison and Northfield, passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2020.

Joyce Elizabeth Tix was born July 11, 1939, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Elmer and Elizabeth (Andert) Grundhofer. She was raised in St. Paul until the age of 8, then moved with her family to a farm in Forest Lake. She graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1957.

On June 3, 1961, Joyce married Mathias (Matt) Tix at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in St. Paul. After marriage they made their home in Hampton, MN. Joyce stayed at home when the children were young, eventually going to work for Cenex/Land-O-Lakes. When Joyce and Matt retired in 1993, they moved to their new home on Lake Mille Lacs in Garrison, MN. After Matt passed away in 2014, Joyce remained in their home until moving to Northfield in December 2019.

Joyce was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison. She spent many years volunteering, which included Meals-On-Wheels and bringing her pets to local eldercare centers. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, gardening, and her beloved cats Fred, Ginger, Pumpkin, Sunshine and Amber.

Survivors include her children, Laura (Curt) Lilleboe of Ramsey, MN, Steve (Mindy) Tix of Deerwood, Carol (Dave) Oys of Lonsdale; grandchildren Lacy Lilleboe, Katelyn and Christopher Tix, Elizabeth and Alexander Oys; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Matt, her parents, and brothers Vernon and Raymond Grundhofer.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison. Interment will be in Garrison Community Cemetery.
