Laree L. Pickar

Laree Lou Pickar, 84, resident of Fort Ripley, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 13th, 2019. She was born September 20, 1934 to Walter J. and Velda (Nelson) Plante in Little Falls, MN.

Laree was united in marriage to Bud Pickar on September 26th, 1953 at St. Mathias Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Mathias Women’s Group and the Council of Catholic Women. Laree was an Avon Distributor, insurance agent and homemaker.

Laree and Bud traveled the southern US starting in 1983, enjoying sights, warm weather and many friends. They were part of the Winter-Texans RV club. She was a lifelong member of St. Mathias Catholic Church, as well as the American Legion and Moose Club.

Laree is survived by her 5 children, Sandra (Larry) DeRosier, Thomas (Latsy) Pickar, Timothy (Rose) Pickar, Terry (Rhonda) Pickar, Sheri (John) Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and 6 brothers, Larry, Sam, Wally, David, Gale, and Richard Plante.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Velda; and her loving husband, Richard "Bud" Pickar.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. Mathias Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Weiske officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday at Nelson-Doran Funeral home in Brainerd with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue the hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home.
