Mildred Louise Radunz, age 98, died at the Good Samaritan Society Woodland on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in Brainerd. Mildred was born May 12, 1921 in Raymond, MN to Frances and Francina (VanKraanen) Steffen. After college she worked as a truck driver for Steffen Implement. In 1943 Mildred was united in marriage to Ervin Radunz. She was a member of Brainerd’s Zion Lutheran Church from 1952 to 1975. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide through Zion, as well as the Garden Club in Brainerd. The couple farmed in the Brainerd lakes area until 1975 when they moved back to Raymond, and Mildred took up bookkeeping at Steffen Implement. In Raymond, Mildred was a baptized member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies Aide, the Garden Club and Quilting Club. Mildred was voted Citizen of the Year in Raymond in 1995. She worked as an election judge in Raymond for years and also worked with the census bureau. After retirement Mildred volunteered at the Willmar Hospital. She moved back to Brainerd in 2016.
Mildred is survived by her sons, Roger (Evelyn) of Rosemount, and Lynn (Pamela) of Brainerd; daughters-in-law, Diane Radunz of Brainerd, and Kathy Super of Columbia Heights; sister, Marion Hayunga of Raymond; sister-in-law, Gwen Steffen; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; two sons, Duane and Dale; her parents; brother, Harold Steffen; and sister, Verna Wilkes.
A visitation for Mildred will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 from 5-7 pm at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. The service will take place at 11 am Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Reverend Steve Benson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home.
