Thomas Schmid

Thomas Joseph Schmid “Tom” died December 24th, 2020 at age 62. Survived by his children Mike (Kerry) Schmid, Steve (Naomi) Schmid, Laura (Mark) Webber, Erica Schmid, and Devon Wiewel, nine grandchildren; Sister, Marie Schmid; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Viola Schmid; Brother, Robb Schmid. Tom was a graduate of St. Thomas Academy (1976) and Marquette University (1980). Tom was a loving father who actively taught his kids the joys of watersports, hunting, snowmobiling, and ice sailing. His outgoing personality was always very welcoming to others. Captain Tom was a true sailor at heart who enjoyed teaching and sharing his passion from the north to the south. His Bohemian heart’s compass led him from northern Minnesota through the river systems to Mobile, Alabama before making his way down the coast to the southernmost point of the Florida Keys. He enjoyed the simplicity, beauty and peace of living on his sailboat for the last 12 years. Captain Tom prevailed through the waves and the winds of hurricane Irma in 2017 and is now settled into the fair winds, calm seas, and blue skies of heaven. He will always be remembered as a man who had a love for adventures and lived life to the fullest.

Memorial service is March 13th at 2:00 at Brenny’s funeral home in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour before services and a reception to follow. Memorial donations may be directed to Gull Lake Sailing School for the Thomas Schmid Memorial Scholarship program to provide an opportunity for new individuals to learn how to sail. Write Thomas Schmid in the comment section.
