Betty “Bessie” Lou Hines

Age 90 passed away at home in Brainerd, MN on March 31, 2022. Betty was born in Webster, South Dakota on March 15, 1932 to Bessie and Jack Bartos.

Betty enjoyed camping, dancing, all family activities, card games, and knitting. She made a lot of double knit socks, double knit mittens and blankets. During deer camp she did all the cooking and made sure nobody went hungry. She always had something prepared or baked to eat. She was very hard working and had a farm. They had milk cows, selling the cream daily, they raised ducks, pigs, and chickens. Betty always kept busy, when they went up north blueberry picking, she would stay at camp cleaning and canning blueberries right at camp. She worked outside of the home in Aitkin at the turkey processing plant. She was one of the employees that was instrumental in bringing the union into the Land O Lakes plant.

In 1970, Betty was appointed the “Queen of TOPS” club for weight loss. She had lost the most weight in her TOPS Chapter/group. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)

Left to remember Betty’s life are her daughters, Susan High of Daleville, AL and Mary (Terry) Hines of Brainerd, MN. Eight Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, Seven Great-Great Grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvie Hines of 57 years, 4 brothers; Frank, Bob, Jim and Ed. Two Sisters, Leona and Shirley. Daughter, Karen and two Grandsons.

Funeral services for Bessie will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 11AM at Halvorson Taylor Life Events Center. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 from 4 -7PM, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Pillager, at Wildwood Cemetery.
