Helen R. Henningson

Helen Henningson, 94, of Brainerd and formerly of Fargo/Moorhead, passed away at her home on Monday, January 31, 2022. Private interment will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Helen was born July 29, 1927 to Joseph and Alice (Ellingson) Rozum in Grafton, ND where she grew up with her three brothers and graduated from high school. Helen was musically talented; playing piano, singing, and playing trombone with the Grafton Band, traveling to California to perform in the Rose Bowl. She worked for Bell Telephone and met and married Les. They resided in Mandan, ND briefly before moving to Fargo where they raised 4 children.

Helen was a talented seamstress and worked in the drapery business while designing and creating clothing for herself and her daughters. Helen and Les belonged to Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo where they made life-long friends. They built a house in Moorhead and in 2000 did the same in Brainerd to be near all four grandchildren. Helen enjoyed reading and studying about many topics, and loved hiking, riding her bike, and creative projects. She and Les enjoyed traveling and visiting friends along the way. They were members of First Lutheran Church in Brainerd. She was a wonderful mom and grandma.

She is survived by her children, Hugh Henningson of Bradenton, FL, Bonnie Henningson (daughter-in-law), Julie Schreifels (Troy), Nancy Henningson (Mark Abendroth) all of Brainerd; grandchildren, William Henningson (Martina Hipperdinger) of San Diego, CA, Nate Henningson of Minneapolis, Serena Schreifels of Los Angeles, CA, and Evan Schreifels (currently deployed overseas); and brother, Eugene Rozum (Omaha, NE). Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Lester Henningson, and son Paul Henningson.

Arrangements are with the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
