Pat was born to Kirk and Irene (Brockway) Smith on January 22, 1936, in St. Paul. Pat spent his childhood in Brainerd while attending St. Francis Catholic School. He graduated from Washington High School and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD before returning to Brainerd. His family can be traced back to Brainerd from before WWI – this is something he found pride and interest in, claiming his title as a ‘Brainerd Historian’. Pat had a fundamental role in founding Brainerd Sports Boosters and bringing Golden Gloves Boxing to town. His passion for supporting the Brainerd Warriors was most evident when he was encouraging his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. He will always be remembered as an outstanding athlete, a patriot and ‘The Culligan Man’.

Pat is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; six children, Joanie Swanson, Beth (Mike) Haus, P.J. (Kelly) Smith, Tommy (Kris) Smith, Sandy (Michelle) Smith and Margaret (Steve) Wiskow; 16 grandchildren; soon to be seven great-grandchildren; and brother, James Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, William, and Joanie Smith; and a son-in-law, Blaine Swanson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Camp Confidence.

Arrangements are with the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
