Robert Graham Waxlax

Due to the Covid breakout, there will not be a public services for Robert Waxlax, 86, of Apple Valley, MN, who died Wednesday November 11 at his home in Apple Valley. Arrangements have been entrusted to Henry W. Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services in Apple Valley, MN

Bob was born May 12, 1934 in Two Harbors to Herbert & Borghild (Sauer) Waxlax. Waxlax, who was a standout athlete while a student at St. Cloud State in the late 1950s, returned to the university in 1970 as a professor in physical education and head cross country and track and field coach.

In 15 years of coaching cross country and 18 years of coaching track, his teams won eight cross country titles and one track title. He coached 23 All-American athletes and three national champions, according to St. Cloud State records. He earned NCC Coach of the Year honors in 1983 (cross country) and 1988 (track and field).

He retired from St. Cloud State in 2000 and was inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame in 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Kellet, sisters, Jean Mahling & Peggy Rasmussen, daughter, Mary Gutierrez, sons, Mike Waxlax & Paul Waxlax, step-daughters, Shelly Bigler and Becky Bigler along with 13 grandchildren.
