Sharon Deann (Oliphant) Akervik


Sharon Deann (Oliphant) Akervik passed away September 16, 2021, after a courageous two-year battle with stage 4 metastatic ovarian cancer.

Sharon was born July 2, 1945, in Brainerd, MN to Robert and Gracie (Richmond) Oliphant, and graduated from Pillager High School in 1963.

At her side during her passing were her loving daughters: Connie Cumming of Carmel Valley, CA; Karen (Greg) Hebert of Cortez, CO; Kristi (Tony) Harvey of Austin, TX; and Kay (John) Van Kirk of Los Gatos, CA, and granddaughter Brenna Cumming.

Also present was her best friend and sister-at-heart, Sue Young, of Salinas, CA.

Sharon’s beloved grandchildren will forever cherish her memory: Royce Cumming of NY, Brenna Cumming of MT, Robert Hebert of CO, and Sonya and Michael Van Kirk of CA.

Sharon retired in 2017 from the finance department at Dole Fresh Vegetables. She spent the last year of her life on road trips through AZ, CO, and TX, skydiving in Maui, and getting matching plumeria tattoos with her daughter Connie, and granddaughter Brenna. Sharon was an avid reader and loved to curl up with a good book; she spoke of opening her own library with all the books she owned. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, collecting rocks, quilting, and gardening.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Marvin, Dale, and Galen, sisters Ardith Sullivan, BettyJo Marshall, and Janie Salfisberg, and her former husband, Gary Akervik. Surviving siblings are Bruce (Mary) Oliphant of Crosby, MN; Gary (Jan) Oliphant of Baxter, MN; and Diane (Sami) Talhami, of MT.
