As reported in the Brainerd Dispatch, School Board President Sue Kern wants to remove evolution fromthe curriculum stating that it has never been proven.
Someone with so little understanding of science should not be on our school board, much less being the president.
Evolution is a theory and a fact. Because the evidence supporting it is so strong, its nearly universally accepted at universities, research institutions, and scientific organizations. It is the basis of most of biology.
In science, the formal definition of “theory” refers to a comprehensive explanation of some aspect of nature that is supported by a vast body of evidence. Also, in science, the term “fact” refers to a scientific explanation that has been tested and confirmed so many times that there is no longer a reason to keep testing it. Therefore, evolution is both a theory and a fact.
