A March 27 Reader Opinion letter attacking Joshua Heintzman stated "Legal loopholes allowing disqualified individuals to be sold guns online, at gun shows or exchanged between private parties is not terribly different than ignoring and allowing CWD-infected wild deer to wander unmonitored..."
Really? Show us the proof. Regurgitating the talking points from the anti-gun lobby and anti-gun governor is not supported by facts. You cannot buy guns online and have them shipped to you. You cannot buy guns at a gun show without passing a background check. And private party sales are few and far between. Facts support that more gun laws do not reduce crime. Areas like Chicago, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. saw increases of violent crime on the average of 215 percent after enacting gun bans. In fact gun-free zones create atmospheres where criminals can make everyone a victim. All mass shootings happen in gun-free zones for a reason-law abiding citizens comply under the law. The most dangerous places in this country are the places that have the strictest gun sale and carry laws. Consequently, the safest places in America are places that have constitutional carry. The fact remains, the only way to stop a bad man with a gun or other weapon, is a good man or woman with a gun.
In 1998, John R. Lott's released "More Guns, Less Crime" and drew both lavish praise and heated criticism. More than a decade later, it continues to play a key role in ongoing arguments over gun-control laws: despite all the attacks by gun-control advocates, no one has ever been able to refute Lott's simple, startling conclusion -- that "more guns mean less crime."
