Looking at candidates for Brainerd School Board, we need board members who can collaborate and bridge divisiveness, listen to parent expectations of our schools and have an established track record of community involvement. My vote and support is definitely going to Derek Owen. Derek is active and engaged in serving our community selflessly, having personal and business connections that a member of our school board needs. Derek wears his enthusiasm and compassion for our kids and community on his sleeve. Derek has continuously been engaged and a positive role model for our kids through coaching, Smiles for Jake and as a firefighter. Derek’s own children are in the school district, and I believe that will help shape the needs for our school district through parent-based decisions. Derek is a Brainerd Warrior graduate and understands the Warrior Way. A vote Nov. 8 for Owen is a vote for our kids’ education.
