The Dec. 1 Issue of the Brainerd Dispatch carried a story entitled, โSmall businesses that took PPP aid may face tax problem.โ The story reported that the Internal Revenue Service on Nov. 18 ruled that businesses cannot deduct expenses such as payroll and rent, paid for with money from the Paycheck Protection Program of the CARES Act.
This is this kind of ruling that makes one wonder if Rudy Giuliani is running the IRS. Unfortunately, the IRS is just an agency of the Treasury following long established rules that need some attention from our U.S. Congress and President Trump. In my opinion, this is like watering your White House Christmas tree decorations just to throw gasoline on them and lighting them on fire so that Washington, D.C. can delight in the glow of the blaze.
Now, while POTUS discusses the pardoning of his eldest offspring, Rudy Giuliani and perhaps himself, Trump should pardon the struggling business owners who needed the PPP money to keep their employees on the payroll. This is the kind of thing that reaffirms my long-held belief that no good deed goes unpunished!
