I took an oath to defend this nation when I served in the United States Air Force. I worked with nuclear weapons and was assigned dangerous missions. I am grateful for the efforts of many others who have taken an oath to serve for the benefit of all. I appreciate the rights spelled out in the Constitution so that the many citizens who have limited access to structural power, still have the right to freedom of expression and all the other rights outlined in the U.S. Constitution.
The Crow Wing County Commissioners should revisit the oath of their public office [available at county offices]. Do they take the oath seriously as they are tendering a 2 nd amendment resolution to modify [confuse] the constitutional intent. If the commissioners are ignorant of their oath, then the public has no confidence. If the commissioners are deceptive, then the public has no trust. Public officials in this nation, by their actions, uphold or destroy democracy.
There may be a few thousand people who are seeking special privileges. The 2 nd amendment group has a resolution that muddies the issue and weakens the Constitution and the rights/responsibilities that sustain our democracy. There are over 50,000 citizens in Crow Wing County who want the Constitution left as is presently written, many who are responsible gun owners.
The CWC Commissioners need to acknowledge the oath of allegiance they took to support the US and Minnesota Constitution. They need to have courage to support these enshrined documents as basis of our democracy. The CWC Commissioners need the courage to stand against those who intentionally or ignorantly damage our constitutional protections. Resolve to support the Constitution as it stands!!
