Reader Opinion: Culpability

Unsubstantiated claims of election fraud caused what happened at the U.S. Capitol.

On Jan. 6, 2021, supporters of Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol to try to overturn the presidential election. In the Jan. 10 Dispatch, Forrest Hyatt, the Crow Wing County GOP chair, said that there is a lot of misinformation regarding the assault on the Capitol that you don’t know what to believe anymore. He pointed to unsubstantiated claims that Black Lives Matter protesters had infiltrated the mob and were responsible. Watch the video, Forrest. Do you see any blacks in attendance?

In the same article, Sen. Paul Gazelka said he’s seen more instances of possible fraud and election irregularities than anything in recent memory. Gazelka would not, however, give concrete examples. Paul, it is people in a position of authority, like you, who are making unsubstantiated claims that ultimately caused what happened at the Capitol. You are culpable. Either put up or shut up!
