Reader Opinion: Democracy cannot survive alternate reality, facts

I read and listen to powerful politicians spew lies, lies readily fact checked and proven false. Where does it end?

Dr. Herb Lin of the Hoover Institution testified before a subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee. This is part of his testimony.

“Information warfare threat to the U.S. is different from past threats and it has the potential to destroy reason and reality as a basis for societal discourse, replacing them with rage and fantasy. Perpetual civil war, political extremism, waged in the information sphere and egged on by our adversaries is every bit as much an existential threat to American civilization and democracy as any military threat imaginable.”

I have experienced this craziness. I have felt the intractable rage. I read and listen to powerful politicians spew lies, lies readily fact checked and proven false. Where does it end? Democracy cannot and will not survive in this “alternate reality” with these “alternate facts.” Where does it end?
