Reader Opinion: Elimination of word is politically incorrect

In reference to the Duluth officials who want to eliminate the title of chief from the police department, I strongly disagree.

The title of “Chief” originated in Old French. It means Leader-head and other offices of Leadership. I have always thought of the title of Chief as a sign of respect and of accomplishment. The title has always meant a title of honor to me.

I believe that those officials who want to change it have the wrong idea of the origin of the word. In other words. I believe they are politically incorrect.

The use of the title is widespread in government, in business and in the military. To eliminate this title from any position is just plain foolish.
