Reader Opinion: Enhance school success

I will vote for candidates who realize Brainerd is already a rather good school district that has its difficulties and its successes and show they are willing to dig into how to fix those problems and enhance those successes.

Stack of newspapers on a laptop computer.

Here’s a list of some items brought up by a handful of the Brainerd School Board candidates: critical race theory, sex education at inappropriate levels, activist teachers, the need to eliminate progressive curriculum, stealing creativity and innovation from students, and indoctrination vs. education.

These terms have appeared on mailings, on Facebook pages and in the newspapers. In every case I’ve seen, these candidates present no research nor evidence that such matters exist in the Brainerd school district. None. Nothing. Zip.

If these folks won’t research our school issues to promote their own candidacy, how can we possibly think they will do any better as school board members?

I will vote for candidates who make a case for their candidacy that show thought and reflection. I will vote for candidates who realize Brainerd is already a rather good school district that has its difficulties and its successes and show they are willing to dig into how to fix those problems and enhance those successes. I urge you to do the same.
