Reader Opinion: Finding a name

It doesn't matter what the final decision is about the name of the building. When people in the area talk about it, they're going to say, "The Performing Arts Center."

Let's see if we can figure out a name for the new performing arts center that won't leave out or offend anyone and will then allow those agonizing over it to get back to taking care of school district business. At first, I thought "The Performing Arts Center" would be a good name, but then I wondered how other performing arts centers would feel if we had "The" performing arts center. We could always call it "A Performing Arts Center" but that wouldn't satisfy our need for a unique identity. However, we could use "The" if we add ISD 181 to the name (that would also satisfy those who want numbers in the name). Now we have "The ISD 181 Performing Arts Center," an inoffensive, generic, but still unique name. Of course, it doesn't matter what the final decision is about the name of the building. When people in the area talk about it, they're going to say, "The Performing Arts Center." I suspect that everyone will know what building they're talking about and I doubt that anyone will be offended. We'll see.
