Trump’s king-like hold on Republican politicians is mafia-like, and the unhealthy reason they stay in line is neither Republican nor Democrat. As discouraging as this is for clear-headed U.S. citizens, there is evidence that we still do have a functioning democracy.
The number of Republicans in government, many appointed by Trump, who have put country before politics is encouraging. To those numerous local, state, and federal judges, staff, clerks, and ballot counters who have faced insults, ridicule, job loss, and even death threats because they follow the rule of law before political party, I say thank you for showing us the party of Lincoln is still alive, in you if not in many politicians.
