In the Jan. 31 Brainerd Dispatch Reader Opinion section, a writer wrote, “Not a patriot,” referring to Donald Trump. We agree with his definition of a patriot — “a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.” However, we are more forgiving of Donald Trump, the person, who avoided the draft, had high staff turnover as president and didn’t attend the Biden inauguration (whose party was to start impeaching him again the following day).
In the Jan. 21 Brainerd Dispatch Reader Opinion section, a writer had written Immeasurable accomplishments” referring to Donald Trump. After a very honorable list of President Trump’s many accomplishments, she sums it up with, “Revitalizing pride in America by standing for freedom of speech, religious liberty and the forgotten middle class.” We definitely agree with her. If you missed it, please read it.
We will always be grateful for President Trump and know he will always be a true patriot.
