I support Steve Barrows for Crow Wing County commissioner. Mr. Barrows grew up in northeast Brainerd, the district he represents and he understands the challenges facing residents. Crow Wing County kept county tax levies from increasing eight years in a row (2011-2018) and has only allowed modest increases since then. Property taxes go to three entities: county, city and school district. The county preliminary tax levy for 2023 is 2.9% compared to 9.9% for Baxter, 9.5% for Brainerd and 8.4% for Brainerd School District. Barrows and the incumbent commissioners have shown fiscal responsibility and are keeping the county portion of property taxes low. Barrows is retired and gives his full attention to the issues at hand. Barrows does his research on the topics and makes informed decisions with his constituents in mind.
