Reader Opinion: Supporting our schools

ReaderOpinionBlue.JPG

As we prepare to send our children off to school for the first time in months, mixed feelings abound. Some feel excited and prepared while others are filled with anxiety and have many unanswered questions. Teachers, staff, and administrators are filled with anticipation to once again have students roaming the halls while others question whether they are prepared for what lies ahead. How can any of us truly be prepared for these unprecedented times?

My two children have benefited from a stellar education in ISD 181 for the past 11 years. I've seen the heart and soul of our ISD 181 teachers and staff poured into our children. New experiences and challenges have shaped them as young human beings.

While none of us ideally want masks and hand sanitizer, distance learning, hybrid learning, social distancing, or cancelled activities and athletics to be primary in the beginning of a new school year, it is the hand we have been dealt. In the coming days we have the opportunity, as parents and community members, to role model what it looks like to be flexible, open minded, and to extend grace in situations that are not ideal.

Let’s all be prepared to assume the best of each other, cheer each other on, and make the most of a difficult situation in the coming days and weeks. Our kids and our teachers, staff, and administration at ISD 181 need our support more than ever. We see you. We support you. We are all Warriors!
