Reader Opinion: Thankful for Line 3

For those of us who supported the project and the need to have a safe and reliable source of energy, replacing Line 3 always made sense.

Stack of newspapers on a laptop computer.

Last year thousands of people came to Minnesota from around the country to protest, threaten workers and try to stop the Enbridge Line 3 replacement project.

Line 3 opponents claimed we do not need pipelines. The Biden Administration now wants Canada to use pipelines to export more oil to the U.S. because of what’s happening around the world.

I wonder where those opponents are now and what they think about how wrong they were.

For those of us who supported the project and the need to have a safe and reliable source of energy, replacing Line 3 always made sense. I never could understand why anyone that is "green" friendly would not want a new pipeline with modern technology to greatly reduce the possibility of a spill.

Seeing what is happening now in the world and the fact the U.S. needs Canada to import more oil, we should all be thankful that Line 3 was replaced and restored to its full capacity. Our past president had the USA more energy independent. My guess is we will never hear an opponent say that, but that’s OK.

We are thankful they were not successful stopping what is now an even more important project for our country and our region.
